Internet Explorer 8 website Health Check From £40

With the release of Microsoft's latest web browser Internet Explorer 8 looming on the horizon (March 2009), this looks set to potentially cause unexpected visual and functional compatibility issues for websites, due to Microsoft's browser rendering changes.

Please see an extract from Microsoft's release notes below for clarification:

Symptoms

Some Web sites may not be displayed correctly or work correctly in Windows Internet Explorer 8. This problem does not occur in earlier versions of Internet Explorer, and the affected Web sites continue to be displayed correctly and to work correctly in Windows Internet Explorer 7.

For example, you may experience any of the following symptoms in Internet Explorer 8:

  • Menus, images, or text are in the wrong positions on some Web sites.
  • Some Web site features do not work.
  • You receive script error messages on some Web sites.
  • Internet Explorer stops working or crashes on some Web sites.

Cause

Some Web sites are designed for older browsers. You may experience compatibility issues on these sites until they are updated for Internet Explorer 8.

At Design and Online, we take great care in coding our websites to use the latest web standards followed by vigorous testing of the site design using both standard compliant and the non-standard browsers such as Internet Explorer. As there is quite a step between Internet Explorer 7 and 8, we would recommend that your website undergoes an audit using our IE 8 website Health Check to make sure that there are no unexpected issues once IE 8 is available for public release, which will also no doubt, eventually become a forced download via the Windows Update service.

Design and Online's health check service starts at £40 (Excl. VAT) per small to medium sized website containing up to 25 pages. The health check service will test for both visual and functional issues and then provide advice on the best approach to resolve these issues.
